Terms and Conditions

ECHO's decision in relation to selection of prize winner(s) is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

In the event of any dispute regarding the rules, conduct or the results of a competition the decision of ECHO will be final.

Unless otherwise stated, competition entrants must be over 18 years old and registered as a student at a recognised third level institution (including higher and further education) in Ireland for the academic year 2009/2010 in order to qualify as the prize winner. ECHO reserves the right to request written proof of age and student registration details of any competition winner.

The competition is not open to staff of ECHO, Goal or Concern, their immediate family members or associated companies including (but not limited to) the competition promotional partner(s) including but not limited to Carr Communications.

Prizes are non transferable and will only be awarded to the winner.

No cash alternative will be awarded in lieu of stated prize(s).

If, due to circumstances beyond its control, a prize becomes unavailable ECHO and/or the promoter(s) reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal value.

Use of a false name or address by a competition entrant will disqualify them from receiving any prize.

ECHO and/or the promoter(s) will endeavour to deliver all prizes within 28 days of winning. Where this is not possible the winner(s) will be notified of a delay.

Unless otherwise stated, all taxes, insurance, fees and surcharges on any prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.

Where a prize is to be provided by a third party, ECHO accept no responsibility whatsoever for the supply or non-supply or purported supply or delay in supply of the prize, including without limitation, the failure of the winner to receive ownership of or use the prize. Where appropriate, prize winners are required to complete all applicable booking and/or other formalities directly with the specified third party provider(s).

ECHO reserves the right to change prize details without notice and all prizes, including travel dates, are subject to availability.

Acceptance of the prize constitutes permission to use the relevant winner's name, hometown and likeness for purposes of advertising, promotion or publicity in any media, without additional compensation and prize winners agree to take part in such related promotional activities as ECHO and/or the promoter(s) may require.

All competition entries must be received by ECHO in the required format before the advertised closing date. Neither ECHO nor its affiliated entities are responsible for printing or typographical errors in any materials relating to ECHO promotions; fraudulent, lost, late, misdirected, incomplete or altered entries; or entries which are processed late or incorrectly or are lost due to computer or other technical malfunction.

ECHO reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition and/or vary competition rules at any time without prior notice.

Neither ECHO nor its agents accept any responsibility whatsoever for any death, injury or other damage, loss, expense or liability arising as a result of taking a prize. Nor will ECHO have any liability or responsibility for any claim arising in connection with participation in the competition or any of the prizes rewarded.

Prizes not claimed within specified time limit will be deemed to have been forfeited and ECHO may dispose of such prizes without any liability to the winner.

Any person found to be in disregard of these rules will be disqualified automatically.

ECHO reserves the right to disqualify any contestant for any reason whatsoever in its sole discretion.

Participation in the competition denotes acceptance of these terms and conditions and any additional competition specific terms and conditions which may be advertised.

ECHO reserves the right to store electronically any videos and written submissions sent in by competition entrants and to use this material free of charge for promotional use. Entrants retain the copyright to their videos and written submissions.

To enter the promotion, entrants must fill out the application form, draft a written submission of no more than 350 words, and film a short (30 seconds - 2 minutes) video which should be submitted as per the guidelines which are available at http://www.crisiscorrespondent.ie/video_guidelines/. (“Eligible Entrants”)

Videos must be the property of the Entrant and must be of reasonable quality. ECHO will not be in a position to return any videos or written submissions. Please be aware that ECHO may use the written and video material for publication purposes, so by entering the competition, you agree to the possible use of your photographs in ECHO's brochures and web gallery.

Eligible Entrants are limited to one entry in the promotion. Any subsequent entry after the first valid entry received from an eligible entrant will be invalid.

Promotion commences at 12.01am on Tuesday 6th October 2009 and entries can be submitted until 11.59pm on Monday 6th November 2009 ("Promotional Period"). The voting period commences at 12.01am on Monday 16th November and runs until 11.59pm on Monday 30th November.

On Monday 7th December, the finalists will present to a panel of experts. This presentation will be recorded for the purposes of adjudication and final decision of ECHO, in conjunction with Goal and Concern and the panel of experts. The winner will be notified by Friday 11th December.

The winner will visit the ECHO-funded GOAL and Concern projects in Uganda on Monday 11th January for approximately a week. The winner will receive the video camera in advance of this trip. All other prizes will be provided following the winner’s return to Ireland.

The winners will be notified by telephone or email. Inability to contact the winner within fourteen days of selection will result in the prize being forfeited.

The Promoters reserve the right to withdraw this promotion or any part of this promotion should their ability to fulfil due obligations be limited at any stage by any form of technical failure.
